Mike has been a professional facilitator and financial information industry advocate for over 20 years. He is currently the Managing Director for the Enterprise Data Management Council – a business forum for financial institutions, data originators and vendors on the strategy and tactics of managing data as an enterprise-wide asset. Mike is an active participant in standards initiatives and has been involved with many organizations including the Reference Data Coalition (REDAC), the Securities and Financial Information Markets Association (SIFMA), the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) and the UK Reference Data User Group (RDUG). He was also a member of the SEC’s Advisory Committee on Market Data and a member of both ISO TC68 and ANSI X9D. Mike has been the Managing Director of the EDM Council since February 2006.

Chris joined HSBC Securities Services in August 2006 and is the Head of Product Management, Market Data Services.  Chris was previously at Threadneedle Investments where he was Head of Investment Information Services.  Before then he was a Director at UBS managing the business content aspects of their data management programme.  Chris started work in the city with Laurie, Milbank stockbrokers, in their futures and options operations team, continuing with Chase Manhattan for a further ten years, culminating in three years as head of the equity derivatives middle office.  He was also manager of OTC derivative client valuations at Bankers Trust.  Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment

Sally Scutt is Deputy Chief Executive of the British Bankers’ Association where she has responsibility for the key policy areas of capital adequacy and prudential regulation, capital markets and market infrastructure, corporate governance, accounting standards and financial crime.

Sally is a member of the European Banking Federation’s Executive Committee, as well as its Banking Supervision Committee and Chairman of its Capital Adequacy Working Group and also its Taskforce on Banking Supervision. She is also a member of the Plenary of European Banking Industry Committee and Chairman of its Banking Supervisory Practices Working Group.

In addition Sally is Managing Director of the International Banking Federation, an organisation founded in March 2004 and whose members comprise American Bankers Association, Australian Bankers’ Association, Canadian Bankers Association, the European Banking Federation and the Japanese Bankers’ Association and Associates are Banking Association of South Africa, China, India, South Korea and Russia. A key aim of the IBFed is to promote regulatory convergence. The IBFed focuses currently on key policy areas of prudential supervision, financial crime, international accounting standards, financial markets, corporate governance, consumer affairs and fair value networks.

Prior to joining the BBA, Sally was a career banker having spent most of her career in international and private banking.

Matt Cox is a Managing Director based within the Asset Servicing business of BNY Mellon. Matt joined the company in 2004. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Matt spent just under 10 years at Fidelity Investments where he performed various roles within Investment Administration and Fund Accounting. Matt was also involved in various activities and projects whilst at Fidelity, including the transition from a legacy Fund Accounting Platform. He also helped design, test and implement a Security Pricing Platform within the organization.

Francis’ Division, located within the Directorate General Statistics of the ECB, is responsible for the external statistics of the euro area (balance of payments, international investment position, foreign direct investment, etc.) and coordinates their harmonisation across the EU. It also runs and further develops the Centralised Securities Database (CSDB), which holds reference and price data for individual securities used for producing euro area statistics. The Division also manages the provision of all market data services for the ECB.

Before joining the ECB in 2001, Francis worked for 15 years in the automotive industry. He joined Mercedes-Benz in 1986, and later moved to Mannesmann-VDO as Head of Strategic Planning. His roles ranged from materials research to globalisation, with a focus on Asia. He subsequently worked at Rieter AG, focussing on post-merger integration and process development. Francis joined the ECB as Head of the Organisational Planning Division; he moved to his current position in 2006.

An engineering graduate of Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, Paris, Francis also holds an MBA from Henley Management College, UK.

Richard Newbury rejoined SIX Telekurs in February 2009 having spent almost a year working at Barclays Global Investors as the UK manager of their Data Operations team.

Richard lead SIX Telekurs’ involvement in a wide range of industry initiatives such as MiFID and EUSD. Marc Berthoud has been acting as deputy head of SIX Swiss Exchange’ Index & Data Products Division since 2002 and has been recently promoted as Executive Director. Marc is driving projects in the area of market data and analytics. He coordinated the Quote Quality Metrics (QQM) service development on behalf of Scoach in 2009, enabling the ongoing assessment of market making quality over some 30’000 securitised derivatives. He held similar project management responsibilities in the cross market order book metrics initiative called ELM.

He currently chairs the MMT Technical Committee. MMT is an industry initiative driven by FESE (Federation of European Securities Exchanges) and some leading data vendors, that is designed to standardise trade flags on trade messages. This standardisation effort will significantly improve market transparency and reduce complexity, and thus processing costs of market data.

Marc is also active as Vice Chairman of the Economics & Statistics Committee of FESE. He ‘s particularly involved in the quantitative data issues related to the MiFID2 review process.

Marc was granted FISD certification in 2010 as Financial Information Associate. He is also certified PRINCE2 project manager.

Marc had previously assignments at Geneva Stock Exchange during the transition phase towards fully automated trading and at Bayernwerk AG (now EON) in Munich.
Marc graduated in Economics in 1992 . He completed the ISMA (now ICMA) certification program in 1997.

John Bottega is Vice President and Chief Data Office for the MARKETS Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY). John joined the Bank in February of 2009, responsible for driving and implementing the MARKETS Division Data Management strategy, as it satisfies its responsibilities in supporting financial stability, markets analysis and markets monitoring. In this role, John has been responsible for bringing together business, technology and governance processes in order to establish a sustainable business data management function supported by a strategic technology infrastructure.

John has also been involved in a number of Bank and system-wide data management efforts, working with fellow colleagues to advance data management strategies within the Bank and across the Federal Reserve Bank system. John has also been involved in a number of industry efforts focused on improving data management best practices and establishing industry-wide data and data management standards - most recently, advancing the creation of the LEI – Legal Entity Identifier.

And finally, in addition to his responsibilities at the FRBNY, John has been given an additional assignment with the Office of Financial Research (OFR), US Department of the Treasury, as Senior Advisor to the Director of the OFR, to assist in establishing the OFR’s Data Management and Data Center functions in their efforts in studying systemic risk.

Prior to joining the Bank, John held the position as Chief Data Office for Citi, making him the first person in the finance industry to hold this title. At Citi, he was responsible for planning and managing the Investment Bank’s data management strategy, data policies, and operational line functions and data investments.

John has over 30 years of experience managing and transforming reference data functions, having spend 9 of those years at Lehman Brothers from 1990 to 1999 building their data management infrastructure of centralized market data processing and data quality, and 9 years collectively at Merrill Lynch, first as an applications developer, then as Product Manager for their Product & Pricing Data environments.

As an active industry participant, John has given over 2 dozen presentations and participated in dozens of round-table discussions on data management best practices at various Data Conferences globally, including a presentation to the State banks of China, an anti-money laundering conference in Singapore, and a presentation on data management organizational structure and strategy to the US Department of Defense.

John is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EDM Council (Enterprise Data Management Council), an industry association focused on Financial Industry Data Management. He has also has served as the chairman of the executive committee of the Financial Information Services Division of the SIIA, has been a member of the SIA Standards and Protocol Committee, the Market Data Definition Language Committee and has been a member of the ISO Working Group 10 and Working Group 11 industry standards bodies.

Eliza Manningham-Buller headed Britain’s Security Service (MI5) from 2002 to 2007, leading the organisation though substantial change in the wake of 9/11 and the growing threat from Al-Qaeda. During her time at the helm MI5 doubled in size, opened eight new offices and altered its approach to the professional development of staff with the establishment of a training academy. Earlier in her career, Eliza led the Service’s investigation into the Lockerbie bombing. She served in Washington during the first Gulf war, returning to establish MI5’s intelligence effort against the Provisional IRA in mainland Britain. She joined the board and assumed lead responsibility for work on Irish terrorism, surveillance, technical collection, finance and IT before becoming Deputy Director General in charge of intelligence operations. In her presentations Eliza draws on her experience in the most demanding of environments to stress the need for leaders in any walk of life to engage in frank dialogue and invite criticism. Do not try to be something you’re not, take responsibility for your team and remember that praising people takes seconds and can make an enormous difference. And don’t forget that humour can be found even in the most awful situations. Eliza Manningham-Buller is now a cross-bench Peer and a Governor of the Wellcome Trust. In 2011, she was chosen to deliver the Reith Lectures, alongside Burmese opposition politician, Aung San Suu Kyi.
