| The end of November saw the first ever Trade Tech South Africa, held in Cape Town, and attracting over 150 industry participants. Highlights of the day included Leanne Parsons' update on the latest from the JSE, lots of discussion around the evolving role of the trader led by Alfonso Raats of Stanlib AM and Eugene Goosen of Metropolitan AM, and an incisive examination of the global trading landscape from Stavros Siokos of Citi. Daniel Polakow of Peregrine gave a very intelligent analysis of the behaviour of alpha in South Africa, Tom de Lange shared the all-important investor persepctive and Tim Wildenberg of UBS talked algos. At the end of the day, Citi, Bloomberg Tradebook and Stanlib Asset Management led champagne roundtable discussions on a range of topics from the evolving buyside-sellside dynamic, to algorithmic trading. This was no-holds-barred discussion, lubricated by Cape Town's finest bubbly.
