Addex Pharmaceuticals

Dr. Mutel was born in 1958 and is a French citizen. Since co-founding Addex, he has overseen three rounds of private financing and the Addex IPO, totalling CHF243 million. In parallel, he has overseen growth of the organization to 140 staff, focused in three therapeutic areas, and the building of the allosteric modulator discovery and development platform. Under his leadership the Company signed three major drug development partnerships, two with Merck & Co., Inc. and one with Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, representing CHF43 million in realized revenues to date and up to about USD1 billion in potential milestones plus royalties. At Roche, where he worked for 15 years, he was Head of Pharmacology in the CNS Diseases department and a member of the CNS Board of Research Area Heads, which contributed to Roche’s research strategy. Dr. Mutel is a non-executive member of the Board of Lectus Therapeutics Ltd, UK. He is a co-author of over 60 research publications and co-inventor on over 20 patents for CNS drugs

Graziano Seghezzi brings nearly a decade of European venture capital investment experience to Sofinnova Partners, where he has been a partner focused on life sciences investment since joining the firm in 2006.

Graziano has been instrumental in targeting, investing in, and nurturing the growth of a number of Sofinnova Partners’ portfolio companies, including: Creabilis Therapeutics (Italy), a specialty dermatology company developing products in multiple clinical areas such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis; Crescendo Biologics (UK), a seed-stage company targeting the application of highly innovative antibody fragment technologies to the development of new therapeutics; GlycoVaxyn (Switzerland), a biotechnology company dedicated to the development of novel vaccines; and Omthera (USA), specialized in cardiovascular disorders with a best-in-class
omega-3 drug. Graziano is a board member of each company.

Prior to joining Sofinnova Partners’ Paris-based team, Graziano was principal at Index Ventures in Geneva, Switzerland, where he invested in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals companies. Before this, he worked for Sofinnova Partners, identifying new investment opportunities in Italian pharmaceutical and medical device companies out of Milan, Italy. Graziano began his career as a biomedical researcher at New York University’s School of Medicine, where he gained five years of hands-on experience studying the molecular mechanism of angiogenesis in oncology and cardiovascular diseases.

Graziano has a degree in genetics and microbiology from the University of Pavia (Italy) and an MBA from the RSM, Erasmus University (Netherlands).

Dr. Katherine Cohen has over 18 years of leadership experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry and has worked across three continents in Europe, U.S., and China. She is a member of the Management Committee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Corporate & Business Development at Intercell and is responsible for global business development, M&A, and licensing. Joined Intercell almost at the start of the company, Dr. Cohen has been deeply involved in the growth and development of Intercell as part of the leadership team; she has built various key departments and negotiated numerous business deals that led to a successful establishment of strong alliances with Pharma companies. Prior to joining Intercell, she was a consultant to a number of international organizations and worked in Sandoz/Novartis. Apart from her business skills Dr. Cohen is also a qualified European Patent Attorney. Dr. Cohen received her Ph.D in Biology from the City University of New York, USA. She is an honorary professor at the University of Applied Sciences, Austria and a guess professor at the Vienna University (Law School) and Danube University Krems (MBA).
