09.30 Key Strategies To Reduce Your Inventory Levels, Reduce Working Capital And Lower Supply Chain Costs
In establishing a framework for achieving lowered inventory, BASF needed a carefully planned and well-executed roadmap. With a methodical approach, BASF drove down inventory levels without jeopardising service levels.
  • Deploying successful inventory management techniques to lower your overall working capital
  • Effectively managing inventory across your supply chain and calculating safety stock requirements to meet sudden demand
  • Focusing on improved production planning through accurate inventory management
  • Using performance-management dashboards to gain a timely view of inventory levels
10.00 Driving A Cash And Profit Driven Supply Chain Through Strategic Networking Capital Management
Guillermo Fumero, Head of Supply Chain Division TLP, Clariant International
Here Guillermo will assess how achieving sustainable improvement of your cash / profitability ratio requires sustainability in supply chain optimisation. Why is such an approach so vital in current financial and economic circumstances?
  • How has the supply chain proven to be key during the economic crisis to generate required cash?
  • Identifying the traditional levers of net working capital: how have they been addressed by companies in the short-term?
  • Developing clear methods to analyse portfolios in a continuous changing environment
  • Dealing with the challenge at Clariant: why a strategic cash / profit driven supply chain plan is essential in the after-crisis scenario stage

10.30 Integrating Freight Purchasing And Day-To-Day Transportation Execution: Working Beyond Traditional Silos To Leverage Unexplored Value Areas
Andy Stinnes, Managing Director & VP of Products and Strategy, GT Nexus
Gain an insight into how major global chemical companies use collaborative technology to create synergies between operations, customer service and freight purchasing. GT Nexus will present chemical industry case studies, showing how the adoption of a collaborative Logistics and Transportation Platform has allowed global shippers to reach and benefit from unexplored value reservoirs.
  • Traditional freight purchasing patterns and traditional sequential cooperation processes between freight purchasing departments and logistics operations are ill-suited for the current business environment
  • Even though traditional IT systems might help to increase productivity inside separate silos such as purchasing and day-to-day operations, considerable inefficiencies still remain at the "interfaces", especially when external partners such as booking agents and 3PLs are also involved in the transportation execution
  • These inefficiencies translate into higher transportation costs, poor service performance, low customer satisfaction and high inventory costs
  • How the adoption of a collaborative Logistics and Transportation Platform can eliminate these inefficiencies and unlock value potential

11.30 Putting The Forecast In Its Place: Moving from a Push-Based, Manufacturing Centric Supply Chain to a Pull Based, Demand-Driven Model
Matt Tichon, Head of Supply Chain & Customer Service | Pigments & Additives North America, Clariant Corporation
Organisations invest significant resources in forecasting and planning systems with the primary goal of synchronising supply with demand; the Pigments and Additives division of Clariant was no different in this regard. The challenge was that erratic customers’ demands coupled with a lack of forward looking market-level information, created significant forecast inaccuracies that led to unsatisfactory order fill rates and substantial overstocks that tied up precious working capital. The solution was to move to a mix of market-based, demand driven replenishment processes that freed up working capital and increased fill rates. Key points in the presentation include:
  • The results of planning in a make-to-forecast environment in SAP APO supply chain conditioning versus supply chain execution
  • Reducing the dependency on an accurate forecast to provide desired customer service levels
  • Using a mix of appropriate planning techniques to synchronise supply and demand without having to rely on a forecast
