11216_006 Javier Puyelo

Javier Puyuelo

Supply Chain Director

Antonio Puig S.A

At present I am Director of Supply Chain at PUIG, a Fragrance & Cosmetics multinational family owned company with HQ in Spain, the role encompasses Demand & Supply Planning, Customer Service and Logistics with worldwide responsibility. Formerly I was European Supply Chain Director at COTY, a Fragrance & Cosmetics Company with responsibility over the Mass Fragrance and Nail Enamel product categories. I worked as well for Revlon as European Planning Director, responsible for the factories in Spain, Italy and Ireland; Coopers & Lybrand as Strategic Operations consultant and for Procter & Gamble where I held various responsibilities within the Product Supply Organization.
I am a Telecommunication Engineer by the Catalonian Polytechnic University (UPC) and did an Executive MBA at ESADE Business school.

Key supply chain project you are currently working on:
I am currently working on the transformation of the Supply Chain model for our group. The project envisions the construction of an integrated Planning System with the deployment of the Demand Planning function in all group’s subsidiaries, and the development of a centralized Inventory Management model; the creation of an advanced Customer Service Organization and the resizing, revision of the operating model and further centralization of our European Distribution Centre.
Biggest supply chain challenges over next 12 months:
• The main challenge for the midterm is to find the right balance between service level and working capital optimization. The current economical uncertainty is causing big turbulences on the demand side which creates risks of overstock, however stock availability is key in order to capitalize every business opportunity. Building flexible supply chain models is critical in the current environment.
• Respond to more demanding requirements from clients: Find the right balance between Standardization and Customization.
How you are overcoming this?
• Customize Supply Chain operational models in order to treat specific product segments and categories differently. Portfolio segmentation becomes critical. Design flexible systems that provide an agile respond to irregular demand patterns.
• Lead the definition and design of collaboration models so that we can find the right trade off between simplification and meeting customer requirements.
Why you think the retail and FMCG elite should attend LogiCon:
It provides a good perspective of the industry trends in the Supply Chain Area. It is a good occasion to meet players from different sectors and different activities, and search for collaboration opportunities.

Supply chain project you are currently working on:
The key supply chain project I’m currently working on is aligning the supply chain actions (i.e. operations) taken within my organization to the stated strategy (i.e. who are we as a company and where are we going to satisfy our stakeholders and customers). There has been a steady but meaningful slide away from our stated strategy to the point that significant organizational and structural changes are necessary.
How you are overcoming this:
Enlisted support of Board to provide necessary direction, specific suggestions, and support.
Why the retail and FMCG elite should attend LogiCon:
There are only a few events globally that attract such a large and influential group of retail and FMCG supply professionals to network and share best practices/case studies - and this is one of them. With the economic challenges facing businesses today it only takes one or two great ideas to make a difference. LogiCon is an ideal source to gain this knowledge.

11216_006 John Sewell

John Sewell

Principal

Crimson and Co

John Sewell is a Principal with the UK's leading end to end supply chain consultancy, Crimson & Co. Previously he was SvP of Global Planning and Logistics at Reckitt Benckiser; designer of retailer supply chain networks, and specialist in retail and consumer goods supply chain with PricewaterhouseCoopers and others Sector experience ranges over FMCG, retailing, pharmaceuticals and beyond. As well as the UK and Europe, John has worked in China, the USA, Australia, the Philippines, and South America. He has an MBA from the London Business School and a degree in Archaeology.

Key supply chain project we are currently working on:
Supporting the creation of a coherent but flexible global supply chain structure. Not primarily driven by systems but by a standard vision of supply chain excellence. This model is flexible enough to deal with all functions across the supply chain and all markets on different journeys to achieving excellence. The coherence of this global vision has enabled and supported the growth of this company’s share price by 95% in the last 5 years, compared to a share index that has fallen by 11% and similar businesses which have grown by 3%.
Biggest supply chain challenges for the next 12 months:
Demand will not only be repressed in key markets, it will continue to consist of even higher levels of individual customer tailoring, faster response times and lower costs. This is the engine that is driving the need for effective supply chain segmentation; moving this essential skill set from high concept to practical all persuasive reality is the biggest challenge facing supply chains in the next decade – not just the next 12 months but the next 10 years.
How we are overcoming these challenges:
By moving segmentation from high concept to practical steps combining the clarity of scprime® driven global engagement with the rigour of analytical techniques that give the insight drive targeted actions.
Why we think the retail and FMCG elite should attend LogiCon:
Because there has never been a more critical time to think again about how the supply chain is changing. In the last 20 to 30 years – since the supply chain became a defined concept – progress has been broadly a story of integration and consolidation. This is changing, integration economics have now got to be combined with the ability to respond to customers of every type, in every geography, with every service: that’s a novel challenge which most people are thinking about but none have turned into reality yet.

John Sewell will be giving a talk: From Academic Dreams to Practical Action: Supply Chain Segmentation on 8th February. View the agenda here or contact us for the full agenda.
