8:30 Keynote: Addressing Supply Chains Of The Future: The CSCMP State Of Logistics Report
Rick Blasgen, President and CEO, Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals
Supply Chain Management has evolved over the past several decades. For over 20 years, CSCMP has been publishing the US State of Logistics Report. Today, US logistics expense tops 10% of GDP, while the discipline has become more efficient and relevant - we make a difference. Yes, times are tough, yet economies will recover, and this recession will end. There is considerable concern about whether supply chains will be ready to effectively manage through the substantial changes that will certainly take place in the global marketplace as all economies recover. Just the enormous increases in product volumes will challenge many supply chains, not to mention issues with possible congestion, talent, and infrastructures. During the recession, all companies have had to deal with an enormous variety of challenges from rapidly plummeting volumes, huge inventory swings, network designs that did not work, to the large pools of talent cast aside as we attempted to control costs. Supply chain capacities have shrunk: in the US alone during 2008, over 3,000 transportation companies went out of business, removing almost 7% of that nation’s transport capacity. As a result, driver shortages loom on the horizon of the recovery. This presentation answers the real question faced by supply chain leaders is: Are you ready for the next set of challenges imposed by an improving global economy?
  • Overview of CSCMP and current SC trends
  • Understanding how global supply chains drive change
  • Sustainability within our field and what to do given current economic
  • uncertainties
  • Strategies to weather the SC storm and innovating into the future
