A recent survey of physicians which asked whether social media would change pharmaceutical marketing forever found 1/3 of physicians saying yes, it will within two years, and another 1/3 saying yes, it will within five years. This is -- according to Liz Cermak, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, Pozen, who has put a great deal of focus on digital media – where she sees a lot of potential for pharmaceutical marketing in the years to come.

“The representative as we know it who tries to do everything today, will probably not exist in its current form,” she says. In the podcast interview below, she explains how there will be a need for two types of people in the future, along with digital communication components.  Listen for her insights as well as the number one piece of advice she has for any pharma organization, big or small, that wants to integrate social media into the marketing mix.

* Astellas is leveraging its virtual technologies, such as brain shark, virtual classrooms, etc.
* Limitations of technologies include bandwidth – typically there is limited bandwidth on IT systems, Internet, etc.
* With technology, there is always something to fit everyone’s budget. Astellas has a small budget so they work with new vendors and try to be creative
