supplier relationship management
Supplier Relationship Management(SRM) is not a new concept, but one that has historically been practiced intermittently. Today, however, organizations are finding that in many cases SRM has become an imperative, not a choice. Prior to the financial crisis of 2008, all too often companies extended a hand to suppliers in the name of collaboration while turning the vise of lowest price with the other.

Closing the Loop to Manage Overhead Costs
With much of the world suffering the prolonged effects of the “great recession”, companies in virtually all industries are under intense pressure to rein in costs. Whether companies operate in mature markets, face rising commodity prices, or seek post-merger savings, cost management continues to be a highly effective means of improving profitability. Yet virtually all companies have seen their SG&A expenses rise in recent years.

Supplier Intelligence and Market Knowledge
Supplier Intelligence is the purposeful, co-ordinated and ethical gathering and monitoring of your strategic suppliers and their positioning in the market place. This activity can be augmented by market knowledge gained from publicly available information about your current suppliers and new entrants into the market. There is a recognition that some markets change which limits sourcing from UK owned or based organisations exampled by engineering and shipping construction. The implications for Buyers are considerable and challenging.

Supplier relations
With companies typically spending 40 to 80 percent of their revenue on purchased goods and services, suppliers can have a significant impact on the overall financial and operational success of a business. While many companies appear to under-emphasize the importance of effectively managing their supply, a growing minority are harnessing the power of trusting, collaborative working relations with their suppliers and turning these working relations into a source of competitive advantage.

Evaluating the Supply Chain in Emerging Markets
It is well known that the emerging markets such as China and India are in a period of extreme growth, and this is possibly no more evident than in the pharmaceutical sector. Whilst many, if not all the big pharmaceutical companies have concerns in these markets, it is becoming increasingly important for all companies to consider carefully how they align their sourcing, procurement, purchasing, and related supply‐management groups in these areas. Benchmarking analysis and survey results reveal the increasing importance of the supply chain management function in these emerging markets.

Procurement Strategy by Tata Consultancy
This paper discusses the concept of ‘short-term financial gains’ at the cost of ‘long-term sustainability’, which is demonstrated by the saying ‘penny wise, pound foolish’. The premise is that there is a need to avoid short-term procurement strategiesduring financial crises, which could compromise long-term success. The paper’s central theme is built around the popular management model Porter’s 5 Forces, and we correlate the theories in this model to the real world challenges of procurement and how they can provide a long-term cost efficient solution.

The Key to Establishing Procurement’s Credibility within the Organization - The Smart Cube
The last two decades have seen a sea change in the Procurement function’s (and the Procurement executive’s) standing within the organization. No longer the proverbial ‘back water’ department, Procurement now occupies an important seat at the executive table – a development that has been driven by two interrelated factors. The first is the clear realization of the value that the function can deliver to an organization – and by value, we don’t simply mean cost savings and thereby direct profit improvement (which is certainly the case) but also Procurement’s ability to contribute to growth, through innovation, new product development and more. The second factor is the flip side of this coin – the marked improvement in the caliber of the function and its resulting ability to deliver to the value creation remit.

Sourcing Innovation: Strategic Spend Visibility: Untapped Potential for Cost Reduction
Chances are that most sourcing professionals have read all of the Aberdeen and AMR
reports on spend analysis and spend visibility and are quite impressed at the opportunity
for savings they reported, on the order of 10% to 15% on 55% to 75% of untapped spend
and 6% of spend in managed categories [08,01,07,etc.], and are now itching to bring
spend analysis and spend visibility into the organization. But before this step is taken, it
is important to realize that these research reports fail to consider the spend analysis value
curve [27], which tends to flatten out within one to three years.

Building a Successful SMMP in a Decentralised Environment

Consolidating meetings activities is no easy task for a $35 billion global technology and multiindustry
conglomerate that has four strategic business groups plus its corporate group where
the meetings department resides. The diverse business groups have varying profiles of meeting
activity, business cultures, leadership styles, and policies. It can be challenging to break
through silos and provide cross-business processes and management, especially when each
entity manages its own payment processes/systems, general ledger codes, and policies.
