Who is attending Soldier Technology and why? |
By the end of this decade, the UK will have implemented a completely new communications capability for dismounted soldiers offering new networking advantages, interoperability with legacy systems and greater situational awareness at the individual and squad levels. Key decision makers from Individual Soldier System Executive, Defence Equipment & Support and the UK MoD will be at Soldier Technology discussing their requirements, including:
- Brigadier General Carew Wilks, DE&S, UK MoD
- Mr Marcus Bruton: Individual Soldier System Executive Team Leader, DE&S, UK MoD

What the military have told us they want: |
The feedback we received from MoD soldier programme managers during our research for Soldier Technology and onsite at January’s event in Arlington, USA, shows that:

| The military want greater visibility on innovative communications technologies from a more diverse array of possible providers - especially when these providers are able to demonstrate the advantages of their technology from existing commercial and / or military applications.
There is increasing urgency to accelerate the incorporation of innovative technologies to theatre by engaging directly with smaller vendors. |
The Case for Soldier Technology UK |
The UK MoD in particular is focussing on the delivery of an effective Dismounted Situational Awareness System that is affordable, and offers low cognitive and physical burden to revolutionise the ability of junior commanders to command tactical manoeuvre and make informed choices that lead to effective burden reduction. The UK is taking a systematic approach to the acquisition of capability for the soldier system by:

| Capturing the capability required in a more succinct and usable format through a comprehensive Capability Plan owned by CAP GM and DINF. R&D Goals should flow directly from this plan. Undertaking more of the Operational Analysis at a Soldier System level – the platoon. This will allow a direct comparison of capabilities across the soldier system in order that a better Balance of Investment can be achieved – limited resources giving optimal delivery of ‘bang for buck’. |

The How System Integrators are Responding |
With power & battery technologies developing so rapidly, even the largest system integrators know that they can’t afford to ignore the progress being made beyond their own R&D labs.
They are now actively seeking partnerships with innovative companies who could benefit from their vast experience of developing capabilities for the military and support them in doing so.
