Questions and Answers with Lt Col Johannes Bogner, Head of Project Team, Soldier Modernisation

How important Soldier Modernisation program for Austria right now? Why?

Very important, as we are in the phase of defining the requirements for a system;
regarding participation in EU‐BG, keeping track in being interoperable, ...

What have been the major developments in the program over the past year?

As the SMP is still in the planning phase, there are no major developments, but some
internal decisions have been made, planning process/defining requirements still
ongoing

What capability is the program focusing on right now and why?

Covering the 5 capability requirements, core capability to be discussed internally
(C4I?)

Are there plans to upgrade the system in the next 12 months, if so what will you be
focusing on?

No, but plans to start procurement process

If industry could offer one technology that will meet your requirements right now,
what would it be?

C4I, engagement

Who are the the biggest, relevant defence manufacturers/system integrators from
Austria that should be at Soldier Technology this May?

There are some relevant companies, covering especially technological fields of
lethality (e. g. Steyr Mannlicher, Hirtenberger), ISTAR (e. g. Schiebel), Power (e. g.
Raytech), but also some others.

With thanks to Lt Col Bogner.
