9:15 High Frequency Attack On Derivatives Trading
Jay Muthuswamy, College of Business Administration, Kent State University
In this session, Jay will discuss how to extend the traditional High Frequency algorithmic style of trading to incorporate the strategic use of options and futures as traded on US exchanges. Basing his work on standard option valuation models, he will show how the liquidity differentials between cash, futures, and options, make viable a derivatives engendered High Frequency strategy. In the case of High Frequency arbitrage strategies involving derivative futures, it will be shown how the liquidity differential induces a viable strategy which exploits the micro-structural discrepancies between futures and cash. In the case of strategies involving options, it will be the lack of synchronicity between option and cash prices that allow for a High Frequency strategy to become viable. Jay will attempt to also argue for the statistical robustness of this style of derivatives based high frequency strategy.
