Charles Li is Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx). Mr. Li has 20 years experience in the financial services sector, including in corporate and securities law practices, corporate finance and advisory services in Hong Kong, the Mainland and New York. Before joining HKEx, Mr. Li was chairman of JP Morgan Chase China. Mr. Li has also worked for Merrill Lynch and was president of Merrill Lynch China. Before moving to Merrill Lynch in 1994, he practiced law in New York with Davis Polk & Wardwell and Brown & Wood. Mr. Li worked as an offshore oil worker in the north China sea prior to college, and a newspaper editor-reporter for China Daily from 1984-1986. He obtained a BA degree from Xiamen University of China in 1984, a MA degree from the University of Alabama in 1988 and a JD degree from Columbia University School of Law in New York in 1991.
Mr Caisley is responsible for managing the technology business which comprises the functions of IT planning and governance, enterprise architecture, business analysis, programme management, testing, solutions delivery and service management. The primary purpose of the team is to provide a robust and reliable technology infrastructure that reinforces SGX's strategic business and growth plans. He provides strategic IT leadership and oversees the development and delivery of IT services and new technologies. He is also responsible for the roll-out of the SGX Reach initiative to create the world's fastest trading engine, establish a world class data centre and connect trading communities in global financial hubs to Singapore. With more than 25 years of experience in IT project management and operations, Mr Caisley provides strategic guidance in technology direction and business development at SGX. Mr Caisley joined SGX on 14 January 2008. Prior to SGX, he was responsible for the management of the Australian Securities Exchange's (ASX) business solutions projects. In his career, he has been responsible for the successful implementations of key IT projects with the Kuwait Investment Office and Commercial Union PLC. He was also the project leader for the development and implementation of the UK's electronic funds transfer system under BACS (Banker Automated Clearing Service) Ltd.
Chi-East, a joint venture of Chi-X Global Inc. and Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), announced today that it has appointed Ned Phillips as it Chief Executive Officer. Mr Phillips was most recently the CEO of BlocSec, an Asia-based crossing network. In the 18 years that he has lived and worked in Asia, he has focused on agency and electronic equity trading - in particular, on growing the alternative crossing network community. He graduated with an honours degree in Economics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 1990, and moved to Asia in early 1991, working in Australia and Hong Kong. He began his career in the financial industry in 1994 when he joined Edinburgh Financial Publishing in Hong Kong. In 1999, he joined E*TRADE to work in its agency equity division, specalising in the Asian equity markets. Four years later, Mr Phillips joined Investment Technology Group (ITG) as Head of Sales and established its Singapore office. He then returned to E*TRADE in 2006 to be its Asian and Japan Managing Director, responsible for its entire regional institutional equity business.
Mr Ulf Carlsson joined NASDAQ OMX in 1996. Since 2003 responsible for NASDAQ OMX operations in North Asia & Japan, based in Hong Kong. Director of the Board of NASDAQ OMX Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. Prior to moving to Asia, 1996-2003 Mr Ulf Carlsson was Head of NASDAQ OMX Marketplace Business Unit responsible for the marketplace systems CLICK XT and SAXESS business globally. Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Lund, Sweden.
Born in Frankfurt/Germany in 1977, Matthias started his professional career with Deutsche Boerse AG in 1998, first as a trainee and then served in various roles within the group. Matthias left Deutsche Boerse AG in 2003 for a short half year stint with Monex Securities Inc. in Tokyo, one of the leading Japanese online brokers. After returning to Europe, Matthias joined the Global Markets team at Deutsche Bank, covering Euro-bonds and Autobahn trades for the London desk before taking up a role as ECB watcher for the Japanese Ministry of Finance in Frankfurt. Matthias joined Osaka Securities Exchange in 2006 to facilitate the international business development of the exchange. Since then he actively engages in promoting and marketing OSE’s derivatives market as well as the Co-location and remote membership initiatives to traditional and non traditional end users globally. Matthias studied economics and Japanese studies at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. In 2003 he received a CDG-fellowship grant by the German parliament. Matthias he is married with a son.
Ashish currently works as the Deputy CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). BSE, set up in 1875, is the oldest stock exchange in Asia. BSE is ranked amongst the top 5 stock exchanges in the world by number of trades and amongst the top 10 stock exchanges in the world by market capitalization. BSE has more than 4,800 listed companies and provides one of the most comprehensive trading and technology framework in the world. Ashish also serves as a Board member on United Stock Exchange (USE), Central Depository Services of India Limited (CDSL), Bank of India Shareholding Limited (BOISL) and Indian Clearing Corporation Limited (ICCL) in addition to serving as a member/trustee on several committees and trusts. Ashish has contributed to many books, newspapers, magazines and journals on the subject of Information Technology, market microstructure, financial sector policies, automation of markets, creation of indices etc. He and his writings have been widely quoted in magazines, academic journals and trade journals in India and abroad.
Mr Hartley oversees the exchange’s infrastructure division, providing the technical know-how to support its electronic trading platform.
He possesses over 20 years’ experience in information technology, including 10 years in the financial services sector. He brings with him extensive knowledge in the design and operation of electronic trading platforms and infrastructure.
Prior to joining HKMEx, Mr Hartley was regional services manager at Patsystems Pty. Ltd. based in Sydney. During his eight years at Patsystems, he specialised in exchange implementations across Asia, being instrumental in the successful establishment of Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET), Tokyo Grain Exchange (TGE) and National Commodities Exchange Limited (NCEL) in Pakistan.
Mr Hartley also managed technical support and project teams within Patsystems’ Asia regional offices.
Until 2001 he held the position of executive, precious metals systems support in HSBC Precious Metals – a subsidiary of HSBC providing services to the gold producer market in the Asia Pacific region. In this role, Mr Hartley managed a team supporting the company’s technology platforms.
Neil Katkov is Senior Vice President, Asia, for Celent, a global provider of strategic business and IT research and consulting for the financial industry. His areas of expertise include the Asian financial services industry, capital markets structure and electronic trading, and compliance issues including anti-money laundering and business continuity planning. Dr. Katkov is widely quoted in the press, appears frequently on business television, and is a popular speaker at conferences in North America, Asia, and Europe. Before joining Celent, Dr. Katkov was responsible for corporate communications for Tokyo-based Softbank. Previously, Dr. Katkov worked in the equity research department of Salomon Brothers Asia Limited.
Ercin joined TurkDEX in 2002 when the exchange was established. He has been responsible for information technology and the development of new technologies. He witnessed and contributed to the enormous growth and rise of the TurkDEX since its launch on February 4, 2005. TurkDEX is ranked as the 26th derivatives exchange in terms of contracts traded as of December 2010 (FIA). His past experience includes software and technology development, systems management, on-demand production systems, trading/data dissemination/monitoring/reporting systems, mission critical systems and IT service management. Mr. Guducu is a graduate of Computer Science Department of Ege University. He also holds a PhD degree in Economics and a MSc in Money&Banking. He also lectures on MIS at The Department of Computer Science in Ege University, Izmir/Turkey.
Martin Haines is the Head of Solutions, Asia for Thomson Reuters. Martin leads the regional team in this role across a broad spectrum of geographies, markets and solutions.
Previously, Martin was Global Head of Sales for Reuters Trading for Fixed Income, Reuters Product Business Owner for Data Management Solutions, Sales Director for Reuters Financial Markets Group, and the Reuters representative in forming Atriax, a joint venture with DB, JPM and Citibank, which merged with FXAll, in the UK. He has also worked for Syntegra (s/w integration arm British Telecom), Dow Jones Telerate and NCR Corporation in a variety of sales, divisional and marketing roles.
Asia is Martin’s first international assignment and he has spent two years in the region. He is based in Singapore. Martin received a First Class BA Honours Degree from Leicester University (UK) in Business Studies with Finance.
Mr Lannoy focuses on the day-to-day management of HKMEx’s operations and technology teams.
Prior to joining HKMEx, Mr Lannoy was most recently Executive Director and co-owner for AsiaEx Consulting Services, a Singapore-based firm focused on facilitating access to derivative and cash markets in Asia. He also has served at RTS Realtime as Asia Pacific Managing Director and at Fimat as Chief Information Officer first for the Americas and then Asia. He began his career at Societe Generale in Paris, in various telecommunications project management roles. Mr Lannoy holds a master’s degree in telecommunications and computer science from the University of Paris XIII in France.
Mr York a Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Empyreal Investments Group. Mr York’s has been involved in derivatives and equity trading for over 20 years. In 1992, Mr York commenced trading Managed Accounts. In 1996 Mr York formed his first hedge fund and in 2004 merged with the Empyreal Investments Group. As CEO of the Empyreal Investments Group Mr York manages a diverse group of traders specialising in systematic trading of the global derivative markets. Mr York’s strong background in trading remains a significant factor as he continues to work with Empyreal’s traders in the development and implementation of their systems and methods.
Eugen Tjong is Head of Enterprise Solutions Real-Time, Asia Pacific for Thomson Reuters. In this role Mr. Tjong has responsibility for all Real-Time solutions within the Asia Pacific region which includes all the Real-Time Feeds, Low Latency Feeds and Hosting solutions. Before moving to Hong Kong, Mr Tjong was based in London where his roles among others included, Business Manager Enterprise Information, Head of Sales EMEA Low Latency Feeds, Head of Integration and Head of Sales Northern Europe. Mr. Tjong was both educated in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and has a degree in business and a PhD in Engineering.
E. John Fildes is Director of Strategic Development for GETCO Asia, where he is responsible for relationships with exchanges, regulators and market participants across the region as well as driving the company's high-frequency trading and market-making strategies in Asian markets. Previously he was Managing Director and COO, Asia, of Instinet Pacific, responsible for all the operations of Instinet in Asia including Japan. Prior to joining Instinet in 2006 he was with Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong for 10 years where he held positions as the Head of Equity Marketing and Head of Electronic and Program Trading for Asia-Pacific. Before that he was the Head of MSCI for Asia Pacific and was actively involved in the launch of MSCI futures contracts for Taiwan and Singapore on SIMEX. He is the Co-Chair of the FIX Protocol Global Steering Committee and a Director of FIX Protocol Limited, and former Board Member of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Mr. Fildes held various positions in Europe with the Financial Times, Standard and Poor's and Reuters. Mr. Fildes studied Law at the University of Liverpool.
Paul is Partner for the Asia Pacific region and a globally recognised expert in eTrading and Market Data systems. He specialises in combining pragmatism with architecture and delivery expertise to turnaround global, business-critical technology and organisational change programmes and quickly deliver measurable results. Paul has lived in London, New York and Singapore and has 6 years consulting experience with Accenture (previously Andersen Consulting).
Anshul Sadana has over a decade of experience in engineering management, design & software development in the networking industry. Anshul joined Arista in 2007 and is responsible for product definition and development priorities of Arista’s next generation products. He also leads all systems engineering and customer advocacy functions. Previously at Cisco, Anshul led the development of the Catalyst 4500 and 4900 product lines and also managed strategic customer relations. Anshul has an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business.
Mr. Puri is responsible for helping customers understand the architecture, design and implementation of Solace-based networks. Prior to joining Solace, Puri has served as a senior architect for TIBCO Software and BEA Systems. Puri has worked with customers in the finance, government, supply chain management and transportation and logistics sectors, and has extensive experience with SOA/EDA systems, J2EE, business process management and graphical user interfaces.
Lee is Worldwide Business Development manager for HP’s scalable, high performance solutions in Financial Services. He is focused on developing and communicating HP’s solutions in the areas of low latency market data/HFT/exchanges, compute-intensive quantitative analytics, and scale-out enterprise datacenters for FSI. He helps HP regional teams and customers understand HP’s value-added systems, optimized for performance and often integrated with hardware, middleware, and application components from HP partners for production-worthy deployable solutions. He brings demanding customer requirements back to HP product engineering divisions to ensure future products meet evolving needs. Lee joined HP in 1996 and served as HP’s Business and Alliances manager for the Computer-Aided Engineering industry for over a decade before turning his focus to FSI. Lee has a Sc.B. in Engineering from Brown University, an Sc.M. in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and over 25 years of industrial experience in manufacturing, software engineering, product marketing, alliance management, and technical sales.
Ms. Yu is Director of Computer Engineering Department and Head of the IT Strategy and Planning Group, Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Her responsibilities include development of the Exchange’s IT strategies and short-term IT planning, and R&D of the Exchange’s technology systems..She joined the Exchange in 1993, and has more than 17 years of experience in planning and design and development of securities trading systems. Ms. Yu received her MBA from Amoy University in 2003, and she graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1990.
Tao is responsible for sales and marketing efforts to the institutional clients, including QFII. He also oversees the Program Trading and Algorithmic Execution services for Guosen brokerage business, where he developed and maintained a pioneering project on building Guosen's capabilities in computerized trading adopting advanced tools and methods currently used in international financial markets such as FIX. Prior to joining Guosen, Tao has assumed different management roles in Beijing Yanhua Hi-Tech Co., Ltd, Haitong Securities Co., Ltd, and China International Futures Co., Ltd. Tao holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Reading ICMA Centre. Tao is a CFA charter holder and a member of HKSFA.
Graeme is an experienced board level director, professional software engineer, architect and technology strategist with a strong track record in delivering low latency, parallelised trading applications and analytical/ visualisation solutions in the financial sector. Recently he delivered a global, multicast, layer 2 FX network with high precision time enabling international differential high frequency FX trading at an independent prop house. Currently he is an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley specialising in low latency. Previously, at Deutsche Bank he designed and delivered the trade order routing and crossing/ internalisation engine. At ABN AMRO, he wrote the messaging fusion middleware for the algorithmic trading platform. In architecture, he was fundamental in the development of the Trade Idea Monitor at youDevise Ltd, a cross-broker tips sharing system that monetises and measures research effort whilst enhancing sell and buy-side opportunities. He has extensive experience of hardware acceleration using FPGA in the finance sector. In government, Graeme designed and delivered the LOIS project, which computerised the 39 Offices and headquarters of Insolvency Service of England and Wales. In the military domain, he engineered a multi-terabyte data management solution for the RAF and the Royal Navy. Graeme is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), a member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Communications Society. He held a non-executive position with youDevise Ltd for eight years, helping the company grow to 45 million in value with 100 employees.
Henry Young is a founder and CEO of Trading Systems Associates plc (TS-Associates), a firm that specialises in monitoring and analysis of networks and real time financial middleware products. TS-Associates’ “TipOff” middleware analysis appliance leverages both FPGA and ASIC based hardware acceleration techniques in order to achieve real time capture, decode and analysis of 1GE and 10GE data flows. With a built in high resolution hardware based time stamping capability, TipOff is leading the charge into high resolution passive latency monitoring of direct exchange feed and transaction infrastructures.Prior to founding TS-Associates in 1999, Henry was a roving industry consultant splitting his time between London and New York with engagements for a variety of banks and exchanges. Henry led the team at MSB Consultants that, in the mid 90s, developed the RT Emulator – a product that delivered Reuters Terminal functionality integrated with six of the then available market data platforms.Henry holds an MSc in Computing from Imperial College and a BSc in Physics & Electronics from Edinburgh University.
Peter Tierney is the regional MD of NYSE Technologies responsible for Asia. NYSE Technologies is a division of NYSE Euronext. Prior to joining NYSE Euronext, Mr. Tierney held various senior management positions at TransactTools, BT Radianz, Omgeo and Thomson Financial with extended postings in major financial centers in Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and the US. Mr. Tierney’s previous roles cover strategic business development, sales and operational management, marketing and product development across front, middle and back office applications in the financial services space. Based in Singapore, Mr. Tierney coordinates the customer facing activities (sales, presales, delivery and support) across the region through teams in Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Peter is originally from Ireland and graduated university with a bachelors in engineering, specializing in electronics and computer science. He is married with 2 children – Liam (10) and Declan (8).
Del Abdullah is the Head of Electronic Trading Technology at Daiwa Capital Markets. In the last decade, Mr Abdullah has worked on building low-latency routing, crossing, TCA, compliance and algorithmic trading systems in California, New York and Hong Kong. Mr. Abdullah is also a member of the FPL technical subcommittee. Prior to joining Daiwa Capital Markets, he has held various positions at Investment Technology Group.
Colin is Director of Business Development for the Asia Pacific region. Within this role, Colin is responsible for the coordination of strategic sales and for the fostering of productive business relationships with IPC’s partners throughout APAC. He works closely with the sales and operations teams and covers IPC’s trading systems and network services divisions. Prior to this role Colin served for 2 years in IPC’s HQ in Jersey City as Director of Product Management, focusing on IPC’s desktop productivity solutions. Prior to that, Colin held several roles within IPC in Asia Pacific, including Director of Customer Solutions APAC and Japan Operations Manager. Colin graduated from Hull University in the UK with a degree in computer software engineering. He moved to Japan in order to undertake a research project within KDD’s R&D division and to study Japanese. Prior to joining IPC, Colin served as the Asia Pacific Information Systems Manager for Bloomberg L.P.

He has more than one decade of managerial experience at PT Pacific Duaribu Investindo with the last position as President Director, after holding the position of Operational Director at the same company. Starting his career since 1992 as an Accountant, Project Controller, then Senior Dealer at several national and multinational companies. He had been active in organization such as Chairman of Derivative Department of Asosiasi Perusahaan Efek Indonesia, JSX Trading Committee, Tim Narasumber [Resource Team] of IDX Trading System Renewal, KPEI Credit and Risk Management Committee, and KPEI Risk Management Procurement System Committee. He holds and Accounting degree from Tarumanegara University, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Dr. Muthuswamy holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Chicago, an MS in Statistics from Stanford University, an MBA in Finance from Wharton, and a bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics. His research interests are in the pricing of derivatives, asset price equilibrium, financial econometrics, and high-frequency hedge fund trading strategies. Dr. Muthuswamy is currently with Kent State University in Ohio (US). He has previously been with Singapore Management University, Griffith University, Duke University, University of Sydney, and National University of Singapore. Dr. Muthuswamy is Deputy Managing Editor of the Journal of Algorithmic Finance, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Futures Markets. Among his many research papers is one co-authored with the late Nobel Laureate Merton Miller on the regulation of stock index futures markets, which was published in the Journal of Finance.
Brian R Brown is a Wall Street veteran in quantitative trading, and author of Chasing the Same Signals. He is a former executive from Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, where he was influential to Asian reforms that enhanced market efficiency and attracted global investors. Mr. Brown previously managed statistical arbitrage portfolios for Trout Trading Management, a pioneer in high frequency trading. He has advised top-tier hedge funds on adapting their models across Asia markets. Mr. Brown presently is Managing Director of the Shogi Group, a hybrid trading and private equity firm.
Victor Lebreton manages the strategies and the electronic trading platform for Quant Hedge an offshore prop-fund . Before that, he was an IT consultant for trading and operations for major Banks and Consulting companies. Early in 2007 he moved to electronic trading to develop his own trading strategies based on cutting edge approach. Today, he is also a teacher for electronic markets and international banking systems for ECE a major engineer school in Paris. His investment research is based on FX systematic and algorithmic trading developed through an innovative backtesting, and algo-optimisation processes. He shares a passion for contemporary art and cultural asset investment for which he has published an article “Online art selling / La vente en ligne d’oeuvre d’art. Paris : 2008”.
Tobias Preis is a German physicist and founder of the Artemis Capital Asset Management GmbH. Born in Limburg an der Lahn, Germany, he performed complex systems research with H. Eugene Stanley at Boston University and Dirk Helbing at ETH Zurich. He was awarded a Ph.D. in physics from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and was a junior member of the Gutenberg Academy. His current research focuses on quantifying and modeling financial market fluctuations. In addition, he has made contributions to general-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU) in statistical physics and econophysics. Recently, he headed a research team which provided evidence that search engine query data and stock market fluctuations are correlated.
Mr. Leung is Chief Technology Officer for Chi-X Global, directing the trading venue operator’s platform development, support and operations activities. Prior to Chi-X Global, he was Chief Technology Officer for Cicada, where he established a technology center in Hong Kong, responsible for software product development and related support activities for the company’s solutions. Prior to joining Cicada, Richard held a 14-year career with Dow Jones Telerate in the Asia Pacific region, where he served in various senior technical positions. As head of technical development, he focused on developing product solutions to meet regional requirements, including local language financial terminals and the integration of regional exchange data. Richard also spent several years in Australia, first as a Product Development Manager for Australia and New Zealand, and subsequently as Technical Manager for the area. He was responsible for project management and implementation of the dealing systems for Dow Jones Telerate in Australia. During this time, he developed several programs to enhance feeds from various exchanges and provide value added information through the Telerate system.
Donal Byrne is the CEO of Corvil, and has over twenty five years experience working in the field of high performance computer and network communication systems. Donal joined Corvil in 2000 as the non-executive Chairman and since 2002 he has served as CEO driving the company to a leading position in latency management for high performance trading systems. Prior to Corvil, Donal was the Chief Marketing Officer of FirstMark Communications, an alternate broadband service provider in Europe. In 1996, Donal co-founded Berkeley Networks in Silicon Valley, which was acquired in 1998 by Fore Systems, a leader in Internet switching. He was senior vice president of marketing at Fore Systems until the company was acquired a year later by GEC. Between 1993 and 1996, he was director of architecture and product management at Bay Networks (formerly Synoptics and Wellfleet), responsible for development of next-generation routers and switches. Donal joined Synoptics from Digital Equipment Corporation in Boston, where he led hardware and software engineering development on a wide range of data switching and Internet routing products. Donal holds a B.E. and M.Eng.Sc. degrees from University College, Dublin. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events, and has numerous publications and patents in the field of high performance computing and low-latency network communication systems.
ZAMEER SYED is a Trading Technology Expert and Enterprise Architect, based in Mumbai, India.He has around 20 years of experience working in Banking and Financial Services domain, providing IT Strategic and Operations leadership in uniquely challenging situations. In his previous assignment, he was Chief Technology Officer with the Reliance Securities Ltd. (Reliance Money) in Mumbai, which is part of the financial services sector of the largest business houses (Reliance ADAG Group) in India. Prior to Reliance Securities, Zameer was Head of IT and Business Solutions Group with HDFC Securities, and was also managing Technology and Projects for Private Banking Group of HDFC Bank and HDB Financials (a subsidiary of HDFC Bank). He has also worked with Peregrine Capital, Rabo India, GE Money, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund and Mahindras, where he was responsible for IT management and Business Solutions functions, with teams across Asia, and involved in large enterprise-wide responsibilities. Zameer is a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a strong track record of performance in turnaround and fast-paced organizations, and utilize keen analysis and insights and team approach to drive organizational improvements and implementation of best practices. He has been part of various global level trading technology forums, including HFT, sharing his knowledge and expertise. He holds a Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India, and Executive Masters in Business Leadership from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkatta, India.
Jack He currently works for BNY Mellon Western FMC as Chief Technology Officer. Jack moved from New York to Shanghai in April 2009 to join the effort to setup BNY Mellon Western. Prior to the move Jack worked for Hess Energy Trading Co., Maple Securities, PA Consulting Group, etc. in the U.S. for over 10 years in roles including IT consultant, software architect and risk specialist. Hani Shalabi joined Credit Suisse Hong Kong in June 2008. He currently heads the electronic trading team, AES, for Asia Pacific in charge of electronic equities, multi-asset and high frequency trading. Previously, Hani managed the Electronic Trading team for UBS in Hong Kong, covering non-Japan Asia. Before that, Hani worked for Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, Japan and New York. Hani holds a degree in Physics from Johns Hopkins University and a Masters in Computer Science from NYU.
Greg Lee is Head of the Deutsche Bank Autobahn Equity trading group for the Asian region. Deutsche Bank Autobahn Equity is the Bank's Direct Market Access and Algorithmic trading platform. Greg has spent his entire career in electronic trading, starting out at Tibco Finance Technology before moving to Reuters and UBS and has built, deployed and managed trading systems in Australia, New Zealand, United States, Switzerland, Japan, India, Thailand and Hong Kong.
Gabriel Butler is a Director of Asia Execution Sales at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He is based in Hong Kong. In this role, Gabriel is responsible for developing and implementing optimal trading strategies to help clients achieve best execution across each of the markets in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, he oversees the electronic trading sales team. Prior to joining BofAML, Gabriel spent seven years at Investment Technology Group (ITG), a specialized brokerage and financial technology company, in Hong Kong and the US. His most recent role at ITG was Director of Asia Sales and Trading. Before that, Gabriel was portfolio manager and trader for FDO Partners, a hedge fund specializing in emerging markets currencies. Gabriel graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
Charles is the Chief Technology Officer of Newedge and is based in Hong Kong, the regional headquarter of the firm. He oversees Asia including strategic planning, development, implementation and management of infrastructure systems to provide business solutions. Newedge is a 50/50 joint venture between Société Générale and Credit Agricole CIB, and is a new leader in global multi-asset brokerage business, with a world-leading position in the execution and clearing of listed derivative products. Charles has been in the IT industry for more than 15 years. Prior to joining Newedge in 2005 (i.e. ex-Fimat at that time), Charles worked for Orange Business Services, a total solutions services provider, as a Lead Consultant. He gained extensive experiences in handling large scale and mission critical IT projects which includes IT infrastructure Setup, Service Integration & Migration and Consulting. Charles holds a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from The University of New South Wales, Australia and received his MBA from The Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) in 2005.
Sung is a technology innovator and entrepreneur, CEO of Neoframe, Inc. Formerly he worked for Samsung and had CTO position in system software companies. With 25 years of experience, he is an industry expert in the design and development, and implementation of high availability mission-critical system software. He is also doing marketing and product planning in Neoframe. Since 1985, he developed UNIX based mainframe-TCP networking gateway server and it was very successful, more than 200 customers in Korea, in the market through 1996. Since 1997, he focused on high performance system software for banks and brokerage firms and found Neoframe in 1999. He designed multi-threaded high performance middleware for handling high traffic/large connection of brokerage firm’s server systems in 2005 and it became industry standard architecture. He holds BSEE degree from SungKyunKwan University.
Chen Wang is founder and president of HXW Trading Limited, an Asia based exchange member proprietary trading firm specializing in high frequency automated trading of listed equity derivative products. Prior to forming HXW, he was Chief Technology Officer of O'Connor and Company (acquired by Fortis and now ABN Amro Bank, N.V.), specializing in providing electronic trading, and clearing services for professional market making firms, exchange participants and proprietary trading firms headquartered in Chicago. He was also head of technology architecture for Global Equity Financing division of Merrill Lynch Global Markets, where he was directly responsible for architecture of strategic initiatives such as Global Prime Brokerage, Merrill Lynch Professional Clearing and Third Party Direct Market Access. He was also responsible technology and quantitative trading for a number of hedge funds and started his career with Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group.
Bob left TIBCO in 2004 to launch 29West. The goal was to define a new market for ultra-low-latency messaging and pioneer the daemonless, serverless design that now sets all the performance standards. Since 29West became a part of Informatica in 2010, their industry leadership has only grown stronger.
Bob was in on the ground floor of microprocessors in 1975, C in 1977, Unix and the ARPAnet in 1979, TCP/IP and the Internet in 1985, the World Wide Web in 1992, and reliable multicast in 1998, all culminating in the birth of low-latency messaging. Bob has a pair of Computer Science degrees from the University of Illinois, but he tries hard not to let those get in the way of communicating with people who have business problems to solve.
Sandeep Mehta is a Managing Director and Head of Technology Infrastructure for Asia-Pacific at UBS. Before joining UBS, he was a Managing Director in Technology at Goldman Sachs where he held senior technology management roles in New York, India, the Middle-East and Asia. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Sandeep held senior technology roles at Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers. His background in computing includes research and publications while at Philips Research Laboratories, NYNEX Science and Technology and the University of Rochester.
Sinan is responsible for Business Development for the Financial Services Sector at Sybase is a member of the Worldwide Sales and Marketing team. Previously, he led the development of the Sybase’s RAP solution in the Product and Technology Group at Sybase. He has held various positions at Sybase in engineering, Professional Services and Product Management. Prior to Sybase he worked at IBM, KPMG and most recently was SVP of Risk Technology for North America at HSBC.
Ralph is the CEO of True Partner Holding as well as an adjunct professor in finance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been active in finance since the late 80's. He started his career as a quantitative analyst at the Pacific Investment Research Institute. Soon after that he founded his own investment fund. Besides Asset Management he founded a trading software development company in 1995. This firm has been providing technology evolving with the market from floor based solutions to co-located HFT setups. The last 10 years he was the CEO and partner of a proprietary market making trading firm active in the global financial markets. This company was sold in 2009. Besides the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he also lectures at the National Taiwan University in Taipei and the NTU-SGX in Singapore.
Daeyoung Kim is the head of Core Technology R&D Team at Korea Exchange. Currently he is leading the project of developing EXTURE+ trading system. He previously designed the core architecture of the current EXTURE trading system and he held various positions at KRX, including the head of IT Control Center and the manager at IT Planning Dept. Prior to join the exchange, Daeyoung served as a software architect and a project manager for KOSDAQ Stock Market and Daishin Securities. He had vast experiences in electronic trading, market data and project management.
Joseph Sarcona joined Morgan Stanley in New York in 2000. He is an Executive Director in the Firm's Institutional Equities Division responsible for Electronic Trading for Non-Japan Asia. He has been based in HK since 2007.
Mr Ragless joined HKEx in September 2010 as SVP and Head of Platform Development. Mr Ragless’ role is to transform the capabilities and core systems of the HKEx into a competitive and leading global force in IT. Mr Ragless has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. He moved to Asia in 1989, where he gained his entry into the world of capital markets developing the AMS/1 trading system for the then Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. He subsequently worked as a consultant for the SEHK on the development of AMS/3 in 1999 – 2000, and defined the requirements for the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s new trading system in 2002. Before joining HKEx, Mr Ragless worked for NYSE Technologies for 5 years, heading up their exchange business in Asia. During this time, he worked on trading system projects for numerous exchanges including the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Financial Exchange, the Philippine Stock Exchange and Bursa Malaysia. He also lead the design phase of the initiative by ASEAN exchanges to create a regional trading link.
Phil Joslin has joined Newedge Singapore as Senior Director for Clearing Sales India. In this role Phil will strengthen the Newedge belief in the importance and growth of the Indian market both for inbound and outbound business. Phil will be prospecting and facilitating the increasing number of India-originated proprietary trading groups and brokers looking to trade overseas markets, as well as overseas investors who are prioritizing India as one of the markets with the most growth opportunities. Phil will be based in Singapore with his primary focus being India but with his vast experience he will add further expertise to the clearing sales team in Singapore. Prior to his current position Phil was the Head of Eurex’s Branch Office in Singapore, a role he held since the exchange opened the office in September 2009, and oversaw business development for the APAC region. Prior to his role at Eurex, Phil spent 14 years at Fimat International Banque S.A. (now known as Newedge Group) in various positions of increasing responsibility lastly as deputy general manager and was an early proponent in the development of high frequency trading business.
Denis joined OneMarketData in March 2011 as Director of Sales, Asia Pacific with responsibility for business development and brand awareness of the OneTick and OneQuantData products. OneTick provides a single-point high-performance solution for Tick Database, Complex Event Processing (CEP) and Financial Analytics. The OneQuantData service complements OneTick by providing a comprehensive repository of historical and reference data for global equity, ETF and derivatives products. Prior to joining OneMarketData, Denis was Japan Country Manager at NYSE Technologies where he was instrumental in building businesses for trading engine technology, market data technology and FIX connectivity solutions with local exchanges, broker-dealers and institutional buy-sides. Earlier in his career, Denis held senior business development and technology roles at Cognotec (now First Derivatives), Sungard and Fujitsu. Denis has been in Japan for 21 years, prior to which he studied Electronic Engineering at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
