Word On The Street

“My biggest hesitation at these shows is being pitched constantly. This was the opposite. It was a conversation, one that honed in on my individual challenges, and how to fix them. I love the fact that I was able to choose which solution providers I meet, based on my current challenges. These solution providers showed genuine interest in my issues.”

Jonathan Gamble, Director, Brand Partnerships, Wayfair

"Top retailers. Top level executives. Top level strategies. Amazing intimacy. I spoke to all the people I wanted to without being rushed. I walked away with new friends. These guys nailed it!"

Gerald Cruz, Senior Director of Business Development, Petra Industries

Even before the pandemic, Syndicate, a leading provider of trend-forward, quality-made floral hardgoods, knew they had to make changes to their transportation strategy. With their own trucking fleet for nearly 40 years, they were experiencing exponentially rising costs due to equipment, insurance, and driver pay.

With a fixed fleet, they also lacked the ability to flex during surge times. This has become even more apparent during the pandemic, while they have experienced supplier delays, labor shortages and driver turnover.

By working with a multimodal carrier like Schneider to takeover the management of their fleet, it’s allowed Syndicate to:

    ·        Focus on solving their other pandemic-related challenges

    ·        Have a flexible capacity option that turns on a dime with their needs

    ·        Bring multimodal capacity and sourcing options to their fingertips

The pandemic has led to a wave of new customers shopping online and has acted as a catalyst to an existing trend -- brands going direct to consumer, which is not going away. However, companies can risk damaging their brands if they are not strategically aligned and mastering e-commerce, logistics, and returned goods while providing quick, contactless delivery. In addition to increasing online sales, this business model could become customers’ main choice of purchasing food and beverage products. A direct-to-consumer channel can yield significant manufacturer benefits such as better profit control, a more efficient response to fast-changing consumer needs, increased consumer loyalty and a more personalized experience for them. But to make all this happen, building a sharp D2C strategy is key, as we'll explore in this discussion.

    ·        Addressing challenges in the economics of the last mile

    ·        Building a follower base to try products and achieve a level of consumer traction

    ·        Collecting and analyzing first-party data to personalize the customer experience and monetize that relationship

    ·        Personalizing products

    ·        Complimenting your existing channels instead of replacing them

Home delivery during the pandemic convinced and converted many customers to the value and convenience of the service, but that last mile of delivery remains the most complex to get right every time.

    ·        Were the biggest holes in their systems and solutions that tripped grocers up in the early days of the pandemic?

    ·        What role did organizational culture and agility play in their ability to execute and adopt to the operational changes?

    ·        What issues continue to thwart the customer experience?

    ·        What does the future of home delivery look like and what will the industry have to do to continue to innovate and get ahead of the next disruption?
